Your Gateway to Better Iced Tea
Cold Brew Tea for Beginners
Overwhelmed by tea jargon? Relax. Cold brew tea is the absolute easiest, most foolproof way to make incredible tea at home.
Why Start with Cold Brew?
Hot tea requires precision. If you use water that is too hot, or steep it for 30 seconds too long, you ruin the cup with bitter tannins.
Cold brew tea is completely forgiving. Because the water is cold, it extracts flavours incredibly slowly. If you forget about your steeping tea and leave it in the fridge for an extra 6 hours, it won't be ruined. In fact, it'll probably taste just fine. This makes it the ultimate beginner-friendly brewing method.
The \"No Gear\" Setup
You don't need a fancy French press or a dedicated steeping bottle. To start making cold brew today, use whatever you have:
- A clean mason jar or a water pitcher
- Any tea you currently own (even standard supermarket tea bags will work to try the method out)
- Tap water (preferably filtered if possible)
- A basic kitchen strainer (if you used loose leaf)
Just put the tea in the water, wait 12 hours, strain it, and pour it over ice. It genuinely is that simple. Once you taste how clean and sweet it is, you can upgrade to high-quality loose leaf tea from Muave.
Common Beginner Questions
Can I use hot water first?
Some people like to \"bloom\" their tea with a little hot water first to speed things up, but for a true, cold-extracted flavour, we recommend starting with cold or room temperature water. It is slower, but the taste is cleaner.
Does it need to be in the fridge?
Yes. While you can technically steep at room temperature, the refrigerator keeps the environment stable and prevents any potential bacterial growth during the long steeping process. Plus, it is ready to drink cold!
How long does it last?
Once strained, your cold brew tea will stay fresh and delicious in the fridge for 3-5 days. If you leave the leaves in, it will eventually become over-extracted, so always strain it after 12-16 hours.
