Vibrant, Caffeine-Free Hydration
Cold Brew Herbal Tea
Herbal teas (technically called tisanes) make arguably the most vibrant, flavourful, and family-friendly cold brews of them all.
Can You Cold Brew Herbal Tea?
Yes! While they don't contain actual leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant, herbal infusions like chamomile, peppermint, rooibos, and fruit blends cold brew beautifully.
In fact, fruit and hibiscus blends are exceptionally popular for cold brewing. Because there are no tannins in most herbal teas, it is nearly impossible to over-steep them. They can sit in your fridge for days, continually slowly extracting sweet fruit flavours.
Safety Note: The \"Hot Wash\" Step
While true teas are generally safe to cold brew straight from the package, some whole fruit pieces or herbs in herbal blends might carry trace bacteria from the field.
For complete food safety (especially when serving pregnant women or children), it is recommended to pour a splash of boiling water over your herbal blend to blanch the ingredients for 30 seconds. Afterwards, fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water and refrigerate as normal.
